One such success story is ISSD – Innovative Solutions for Sustainable Development of Communities, co-founded by Mkhitar Avetisyan, Gevorg Guloyan, and Irina Mkrtchyan. This dynamic NGO is reshaping rural Armenia with innovative solutions in waste management, agriculture, education, business development, circular economy, and women’s empowerment.
A Vision Born of Passion
“We’ve always been concerned about environmental issues and difficulties that villagers face in rural communities of Armenia,” shares Mkhitar. This shared concern fueled the team’s decision to launch ISSD in early 2017, despite starting with no resources beyond their passion, expertise, and determination.
The turning point came when they discovered a fellowship offered by Green Armenia and Impact Hub Yerevan. “After receiving the fellowship, we became a member at IHY. Soon after coming in, we realized that Impact Hub Yerevan was a huge international family. Besides providing us with all necessary resources, in no time the team helped us build a strong and reliable local and international network,” Mkhitar recalls.
This access to resources, connections, and a supportive environment enabled ISSD to tackle challenges head-on. “Thanks to the friendly supportive environment that rules the hub, we are able to face all the issues coming along the way of our projects with great courage.”

Fests Go Green – Making festivals eco-friendly and sustainable.
Share a Book – Encouraging education and literacy in rural communities.

Armat – Empowering women and youth in rural areas.
In just a few years, ISSD has impacted over 100,000 stakeholders through its projects. This remarkable achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of nearly 100 team members, volunteers, and interns who tirelessly support the NGO’s mission.
