Timothy Straight has been a cornerstone of the Impact Hub Yerevan community since its inception. As one of the first members and a trailblazer in Armenia’s social enterprise ecosystem, his mentorship, vision, and dedication have been instrumental in driving positive change. Through his work with the Homeland Development Initiative Foundation (HDIF), Timothy continues to inspire a new generation of changemakers striving to build a better Armenia.
A Legacy of Collaboration
Timothy’s connection to Impact Hub Yerevan began at the very start. Reflecting on his experience, he once said, “The co-founders of Impact Hub Yerevan brought like-minded enthusiasts together to establish a truly unique place … an oasis of positivity in Armenia.” As the first member to sign up his organization, Timothy has played a vital role in shaping the Hub’s culture of collaboration and impact.
Timothy’s efforts to foster connections and mentor others have sparked countless initiatives. One such moment came in 2016, when he organized a meeting between agribusiness experts and students from local universities. Sara Anjargolian, Co-Founder of Impact Hub Yerevan, described it as a “perfect example of Impact Hub Yerevan connecting and empowering people making a positive social change in Armenia.”
Building Social Enterprises with Purpose
As the founder of HDIF, Timothy has spent years creating sustainable livelihoods for women and people with disabilities in rural Armenia. “Finding a market for an Armenian product is not the main challenge; legal and logistical matters are,” Timothy shared during a 2019 talk at the Hub. Despite facing years of “trial and error,” his unwavering belief in HDIF’s mission has driven its growth and success.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Timothy and his team demonstrated their adaptability and resilience by producing reusable masks in Armenia. Their innovation supported local communities while addressing a critical global need, showcasing HDIF’s commitment to making a difference.
HDIF and Impact Hub: A Partnership for Change
The partnership between HDIF and Impact Hub Yerevan has flourished over the years, creating opportunities for Hub members to showcase and sell their products through the Impact Shop by HDIF. Established in 2022, this collaboration emphasizes fair trade principles and highlights the power of combining traditional skills with modern enterprise.
In Timothy’s own words, “Impact Hub Yerevan has become a great bridge to success for newborn ideas and enterprises as well as for individual entrepreneurs.” Through this partnership, HDIF has expanded its reach, offering fair-trade products that empower rural communities while supporting socially conscious enterprises.
A Vision for the Future
As one of VIA Fund’s dedicated portfolio companies, HDIF continues to empower women and people with disabilities, transforming traditional skills into sustainable livelihoods. “My belief in our mission and the social impact we are making in Armenia is what continues pushing me forward,” Timothy remarked.
